Farmhouse Dining Room Transformation

Last Summer, I decided to refinish our dining room table. If you’ve been following the blog, then you might remember that I tend to start one project that leads to another. Well, the dining room was no exception. Since we had to take the table out of the room for refinishing, it felt like a good time to paint the whole room.

Here is what the dining room looked like when we first moved in.

The lighting is a bit dark, but the walls were two different shades of pale blue. Below the chair rail was slightly darker while above the rail was lighter.

The light fixture was the first thing I changed in the room. It wasn’t for me. I took a traditional-style chandelier from the kitchen down that was a country blue and spray painted it oil rubbed bronze. This was the room at Christmas in the first year wemoved in.

I’d love to get a new light fixture in here at some point but this one is working just fine for now and it’s not so bad since it’s traditional.

Before painting, I decided to remove the chair rail. I went back and forth on this. I love dining rooms with wainscoting and considered doing a faux version of it but I knew it would take a lot more time than I was willing to give this room right now. I kept the chair rail fully intact while removing and we have it stored in case I ever want to put it back up.

Once I removed the chair rail, it really felt like it opened up the room.

After removing the chair rail, I filled in any holes with spackle.

Next, I painted the windows and trim white and the walls Owl Gray by Benjamin Moore.

This is what the room currently looks like. We hung curtains and a few wall pieces but have a few more to hang. I’d love to get some open shelving in here so it’s still a work in progress but I’m loving the difference a little paint does to a room.

I added this dresser that I chalk painted over the summer to hold some of our table linens.

This mug rack was the first wall decor we hung in the room. It adds a little farmhouse charm to the room 🙂

After I took down all the Christmas decor, I added faux greenery throughout the room. I love adding greenery because it adds warmth to any room.

Hope you enjoyed seeing this transformation! Stay tuned for more progress 🙂
